IN <br /> FROM: Erik Glavich, Director, Growth and Opportunity <br /> SUBJECT: Retail Development Real Property Tax Abatement Petition <br /> for David A. Nufer, LLC (Burton's Laundry) <br /> DATE: February 4, 2026 <br /> On February 4, 2026, a petition for tax abatement from David A. Nufer, LLC, was filed with the <br /> Office of the City Clerk. The petition seeks consideration for a retail development real property <br /> tax abatement for property at the following contiguous parcels: 2614-2626 S. Main Street and <br /> 109 W. Eckman Street. <br /> Pursuant to Chapter 2, Article 6, Section 2-84.9 of the Municipal Code of the City of South <br /> Bend, the petition was referred to the Department of Community Investment for purposes of <br /> investigation and preparation of a report determining whether the area qualifies as an Economic <br /> Revitalization Area pursuant to Indiana Code 6 1.1-12.1 and all zoning requirements have been <br /> met. <br /> The Department of Community Investment has reviewed the petition, investigated the area, and <br /> makes the following report. <br /> Project Summary <br /> • The petitioner, David A. Nufer, LLC, purchased the property at the northeast corner of S. <br /> Main Street and W. Eckman Street. and will build a new Burton's Laundry facility on the <br /> site (4,600 square feet). <br /> • The private investment commitment for the project is $2.0 million and includes $1.2 <br /> million for the building and about $800,000 in equipment. <br /> • The project will provide residents and families in the surrounding area access to services <br /> that might not currently exist. <br /> • The petitioner is investing in a neighborhood that is prime for new development. The <br /> new building and activity will hopefully spur additional investment and enhance the <br /> vibrancy of the community. <br /> Employment Impact <br /> Per this petition and supporting materials: <br /> • Upon completion, the new facility will create (4) new jobs. <br /> • Burton's Laundry is committed to providing equal opportunity and diversity in their labor <br /> force. The company currently employs 52 individuals across 13 stores in South Bend <br /> and the surrounding area. <br />
