9 AREA PLAN COMMISSION
OF ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, IN
Room 1140 County -City Building
The Honorable Common Council
City of South Bend
County -City Building
South Bend, IN 46601
South Bend, Indiana 46601
RICHARD S. JOHNSON
Executive Director
(219) 284 -9571
April 18, 1979
In Re: An ordinance initiated by Mary Chris Adams; Councilman, to include
the Union Station property in the area of the central business
district excluded from certain provisions of the Controlled Use
Ordinance, City of South Bend
Gentlemen:
The attached rezoning petition of Mary Chris Adams was legally advertised
April 7, 1979. The Area Plan Commission gave it a public hearing on April 17,
1979, at which time the following action was taken:
"Upon a motion by Joseph Serge, being seconded by Joseph Simeri,
and unanimously carried, the petition of Mary Chris Adams, Councilman,
to include the Union Station property in the area of the central
business district excluded from certain provisions of the Controlled
Use Ordinance, City of South Bend, is returned to the Common Council
with a favorable recommendation, by the Area Plan Commission."
The Commission is of the opinion that if the petition area is
exempted from the Controlled Use Ordinance, renovation of the Union Station
into an adaptive reuse would be possible. Without exemption the reuse
potentials would be rather limited.
The deliberations of the Area Plan Commission and points considered
in arriving at the above decision are shown in excerpts of the minutes and
will be forwarded to you at a later date to be made a part of this report.
Attached for your consideration in the review of this matter is a copy of
the Area Plan Commission staff report.
Very truly yours, -
Richard S. Johnson,
Executive Director
RSJ /cm
Serving: South Bend, Lakeville, New Carlisle, North Liberty, Roseland & St. Joseph, County, IN
