BILL NO. 114 -79 <br />ORDINANCE NO. _�aKa qt _ ?C <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 20, ARTICLE 8, COMMONLY KNOWN <br />AS TRUCK ROUTES BY AMENDING SECTION 20 -109 TO INCLUDE DELIVERY <br />AND UNLOADING EXCEPTIONS, PARKING PROHIBITIONS, AND PENALTIES <br />STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br />The Common Council of the City of South Bend recognizes the contri- <br />butions being made to our community by intercity trucks transporting <br />goods to and from our City. <br />However, the Council also recognizes that travel and parking of <br />intercity trucks through and in the residential areas of the City causes <br />noise problems and contributes to the deterioration and damage_to_ the. <br />City streets. <br />Therefore, the Council believes that reasonable regulations are <br />needed by specifically defining loading or delivery exceptions, parking <br />prohibitions and penalties which pertain to intercity trucks. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of <br />South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION I: Chapter 20, Article 8, Commonly known as Truck Routes <br />of the Municipal Code of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is hereby amended <br />by the addition of subsections 20 -109 (d), (e), and (f) which shall read <br />as follows: <br />SEC. 20 -109 Use of City Streets by intercity trucks <br />as defined in section 20 -106 (3) <br />(d) All intercity trucks as defined in this Article shall proceed <br />by the shortest combination of State and Federal highways, City truck <br />routes and access routes shown upon "schedule A -1", and shall be prohibited <br />from riving upon any of er city streets unless said vehicle is in the <br />process of delivering or picking up goods. A written bill of lading or <br />similar document must be produced by the driver if stopped while driving <br />on a city street which is not designated as a City truck route, access <br />route as shown in "Schedule A -1 11,or detour route to verify such pick -up <br />or el.ivery. <br />(e) All intercity trucks as defined in this Article shall be prohi- <br />bited from parking on city streets unless designated otherwise by a <br />Era tic sign.
