CITY OF SOUTH BEND AND ST. JOSEPH COUNTY HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />After due consideration the following action was taken: <br />Upon a motion by David Wyncott, seconded by Peter DeKever, and <br />UNANIMOULY carried by vote, the Historic Preservation Commission <br />APPROVES Certificate of Appropriateness Application #2025-0805 <br />Roll was called. <br />Commissioner Jones: AYE <br />Commissioner Skaggs: AYE <br />Commissioner Wyncott: AYE <br />Commissioner DeKever: AYE <br />Commissioner Downs-Krostenko: AYE <br />Commissioner Hough: AYE <br />Commissioner Andrews: AYE <br />Vote: 7-0. Five in favor, none opposed. <br />COA 2025-0805 APPROVED. <br />b. LOCAL LANDMARKS DESIGNATIONS <br />i. 528 South Eddy Street Local Landmark Ordinance #9089-00 <br />(Audio Position: 00:11:15) <br />The staff report was presented by: <br />Kate Himick, Historic Preservation Specialist <br />Staff Recommendation: <br />It is the belief of Staff that the original Iandmarking ordinance for Jefferson <br />School was intended to protect the school building itself. In order to support <br />both the interests of the Historic Preservation Commission and the South <br />Bend Community School Corporation, Staff believe it is in the best interests <br />of both parties for landmark boundaries to be redrawn. Based on the <br />information provided prior to this public hearing, Staff make a FAVORABLE <br />RECOMMENDATION for the Historic Preservation Commission to forward its <br />favorable recommendation for this proposed Ordinance to the Common <br />Council of the City of South Bend. <br />The applicant was represented by: <br />Joseph Somers, Gabriel Meery, James Mason, and Kendra Key, 737 West <br />Beale Street <br />The public was represented by: <br />There was no one from the public to speak in regard to this application. <br />After due consideration the following action was taken: <br />Upon a motion by David Wyncott, and seconded by Michael Skaggs, and <br />carried by vote, the Historic Preservation Commission moves to send the <br />Amendment of Landmark Ordinance #9089-00 to the Common Council with a <br />favorable recommendation. <br />Roll was called. <br />Commissioner Skaggs: AYE <br />Commissioner Wyncott: AYE <br />Commissioner Dekever: NAY <br />Commissioner Hough: AYE <br />Commissioner Downs-Krostenko: AYE <br />Commissioner Jones: Abstains <br />Page 12 June 16, 2025 <br />
