Parent, President <br />South Bend Common Council <br />County -City Building <br />227 West Jefferson Boulevard <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Dear Mr. Parent: <br />The Department of Public Parks is requesting the Common Council to <br />approve the enclosed ordinance transferring funds between various <br />accounts in the general park fund. <br />A major shortage occurs in the account #120.0, Salaries and Wages, <br />Temporary because of reductions made in the park department 1979 <br />budget request for account #120.0. Most of the other shortages <br />are a result of inflation and budget reductions during the budget <br />process. <br />There is a major surplus in account #221.0, Electric Current because <br />we carried forward $17,591.76 from the 1978 budget to the 1979 budget. <br />We also carried $8,000.00 forward from account X6222.0, Gas from the <br />1978 budget to the 1979 budget. There is a surplus in account X6580.0, <br />Gross Income Tax because of a new law exempting most of the park <br />receipts from taxes. There are surpluses in the other accounts <br />because of a concentrated effort to reduce spending. <br />Your passage of this ordinance is needed for the efficient operation <br />of the Department of Public Parks. <br />Very truly yours, <br />DEP TMENT OF UUB IE PARKS <br />J mes R.
