Outlook
Re: Additional accessibility renovation @ 1097 Riverside Dr.
From Stephen Wisniewski <
Date Tue 9/9/2025 3:09 PM
To Kate Himick <Khimick@southbendin.gov>
Cc Ross Van Overberghe <rvoverber@southbendin.gov>
Kate,
Thanks so much for your reply. To answer your questions:
1) The ramp will be free-standing, and the upper platform will be built over and supported by the
existing concrete steps/platform currently at our back door. It won't be supported by any new
connections to the house or garage.
2) I don't have a specific model of replacement door for the garage entry, but it is specified that they
use a solid wood door that matches the original as closely as possible. Don't know if this is relevant,
but the current door is also not historical/original to the structure -- I believe it went in about 20 years
ago when the roof was replaced.
Hope this helps, thanks again!
stephen
On Tue, Sep 9, 2025 at 2:59 PM Kate Himick <Khimick@southbendin.gov> wrote:
Hi Stephen,
It is great to hear from you. I am glad that you have been able to progress through that system,
despite it being slow and arduous. I am sure that it has not been easy or straightforward.
I believe we should be able to administratively approve this COA, but I do have a few questions about
your COA application:
1. Will the ramp be free standing, with its primary support being ground-based? Or will it be
primarily supported by attachments to the house and garage siding?
2. Do you have a picture of what the garage service door will be replaced with? Since it is the
replacement of a historic wooden door, we will need specific details of what you intend to put in
its place (materials, design, etc.). And we would request that the original wooden door be kept
on site.
Sincerely,

9/16/25, 3:01 PM Mail - Kate Himick - Outlook
https://outlook.office.com/mail/inbox/id/AAkALgAAAAAAHYQDEapmEc2byACqAC%2FEWg0AowuCdkFPEUSvr5M36Kh3TAABWKUE1AAA?nativeVe…1/4
