South Bend Armed Forces Reserve Center <br />South Bend, IN <br />DLZ was commissioned by the Military Department <br />of Indiana to provide architectural and engineering <br />design services for an 80,000 S.F. Addition/ <br />Alteration project at the South Bend Armed Forces <br />Reserve Center (AFRC) for the Indiana Army <br />National Guard. The project scope of work includes <br />approximately 40,000 S.F. of renovation and <br />approximately 40,000 S.F. of new construction, <br />including a new Vehicle Maintenance Building. <br />Pinhook Park Improvements <br />South Bend, IN <br />The City desired to make park improvements utilizing <br />partial funding from a Land and Water Conservation <br />Fund (LWCF) grant. The one -mile trail and access <br />improvements focus on connectivity within the park <br />and to the nearby regional trail system, preservation <br />of existing mature tree canopy, accessibility for all <br />users, and creation of a unique user experience. The <br />playground includes nature -based themes and strives <br />to inspire exploration, physical activity, and inclusive <br />The project included a significant amount of site play. <br />development on the 25-acre site including POV <br />parking and circulation, pervious pavements, military <br />tactical vehicle storage, security fencing, Anti- <br />terrorism Force Protection (ATFP) measures, bio- <br />retention, grading and coordination of storm water <br />drainage, landscape planting, irrigation, site utilities, <br />water distribution, and power distribution. <br />South Bend Armory Success Story <br />When designing the South Bend Armory, DLZ <br />designed a heavy vehicle loading area. The parking <br />lot design included 20 inches of aggregate to <br />address the extremely heavy vehicle loads. In <br />addition, our Structural Engineers were able to <br />design loading ramps to assist in loading and <br />unloading vehicles from transport trucks. <br />The project also includes a concrete launch ramp for <br />small boats, boarding dock, accessible kayak launch, <br />and a secondary floating fishing pier. Architectural <br />improvements to the existing Pavilion include updated <br />interior finishes, electronics and lighting, accessibility <br />improvements within the existing restrooms. DLZ <br />services included programming, geotechnical <br />services, topographic survey, Section 106/NEPA <br />services, asbestos testing, 401/404 permitting, and <br />development of design and construction documents <br />along with bid and construction phase services. <br />UDLZ <br />City of South Bend » Western Avenue Transformation District » 5 <br />
