REGULAR MEETING MAY 27, 2025 115 <br />impact of public works and capital projects that have been through the Board, that the Board take <br />a moment to congratulate her. <br />Mr. Gilot added that she left quite a legacy of projects accomplished, but he also sees a wonderful <br />example of women in STEM. He recalled that there is about thirteen percent (13%) of women in <br />the STEM workforce and he sees more balanced numbers coming out of the universities these <br />days, but it is going to take a while to transform the workforce, but certainly the City of South <br />Bend has done a wonderful job of that, as evidenced by the front row of the audience attending the <br />meeting. <br />President Maradik thanked Kara for her service and congratulated her. <br />Breana Micou asked Kara if she was the first female City Engineer. City Engineer Kara Boyles <br />noted that she does hold the honor of being the first female City Engineer, if not the first female <br />engineer that was hired by the City of South Bend. It's been a privilege to serve the City of South <br />Bend. She has always considered her role her responsibility to the people of South Bend, so she <br />loved it. <br />Board Attorney Michael Schmidt advised the board that a new engineer was present, so he asked <br />her to introduce herself to the Board. <br />Project Engineer Caitlin Wyant stated her name and that she is a project engineer with the City of <br />South Bend. She graduated from Purdue last August with a degree in civil engineering, <br />transportation and infrastructure systems with a minor detour into environmental politics. She <br />added she has come to the City of South Bend with about six (6) months experience working at <br />Whitman out of graduation on site development. While in school, she worked as an intern with the <br />Cass County Road Commission. She exclaimed she is very excited to start her career with the City <br />in government and public works. <br />City Engineer Kara Boyles concluded by adding that there would be two (2) more Senior Engineers <br />starting soon and also two (2) new inspectors beginning, so then they will have a full team. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, President Maradik adjourned the <br />meeting at 10:45 a.m. <br />REGULAR MEETING May 27, 2025 <br />The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at 9:31 a.m. on Tuesday, May <br />27, 2025, by Board President Elizabeth A. Maradik in the 13th Floor Conference Room of the <br />County-City Building, 227 W. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, Indiana. The meeting was also <br />streamed live to the public via Microsoft Teams.
