Proper compaction per INDOT Standard Specification Section 604 (Paragraph 604.03(b)) is required for all walks,
approaches and ramps.
3. These dimensions are based on a 6" curb height. They shall be proportionally adjusted for other curb heights.
4. The bottom edge of the curb ramp shall be flush with the edge of adjacent pavement and gutter line.
5. Landing areas at the top of the curb ramps shall have maximum cross slope of 1.5% in any direction.
6. Drainage inlets should be located uphill from the curb ramps to prevent water ponding within the pedestrian
access route.
7. Algebraic difference in grade between the base of curb ramp and the gutter shall be less than 11%. If this is not
practical a 2'-0" wide level strip shall be provided.
8. Minimum width of curb ramp is 4'-0".
9. Under restrictive conditions, additional details and design modifications may be required and subject to approval
by City.
-owe
50%-65% of
Base Diameter
Base Diameter 0.2"
0.9" Min.
1.4" Max.
211
SECTION A -A
Detectable
Warning
Surface Integral Curb
C a A 1
° a ° ° 15" 1
'Pavement a
6 -8 or Gutter
Concrete Base oTyp a j ti
TYPICAL RAMP AND TRUNCATED DOME
CONSTRUCTION DETAIL
 - 0ice-,
-O-O-O-
TRUNCATED DOMES
7.5% Max. 5.0% Max.
Counter Slope
Ramp
24" Level Strip
24" Curb as Required, may
Min. be Monolithic with Level
Strip
CHANGE IN GRADE > 11%
NOTES
1. Detectable warning surface shall consist of truncated domes and shall be aligned in a square or radial grid
pattern. Where truncated domes are arrayed radially, they may differ in diameter and center -to -center spacing
within the ranges specified.
2. The detectable warning surface shall be manufactured to fit the radii. Field cutting shall not alter the truncated
dome spacing between the adjacent panels outside of the allowable range.
3. The detectable warning surface shall contrast visually with adjacent surfaces, either light -on -dark or
dark -on -light.
4. The detectable warning surface shall extend a minimum of 2 ft. in the direction of pedestrian travel and extend
the full width as shown. The detectable warning surface shall not be placed across a grade break.
5. The maximum counter slope of the gutter or street at the bottom of the ramp shall be 5.00%. Where the
algebraic difference between the running slope and the counter slope exceeds 11%, a 2-ft. minimum level strip
should be provided at the bottom of the ramp.
6. Where the concrete border is used for forming, the border shall be cast monolithically with the curb ramp
concrete. The concrete border shall not exceed 2 in. within the ramp width.
7. Where forming other than a concrete border is used, the edge restraint shall not encroach upon the ramp width.
4MP, TYPE A SIDEWALK CURB RAMP, DETECTABLE WARNING SURFACE
SCALE. 114" = 1'-0" (NOT TO SCALE)
SECTION 6 - TRAFFIC AND LIGHTING
m m Lmi3 Fir
 t{h'l71GGE - -
Oi dllh
3" d: Cor rut>ti-
TYPICAL LOOP DETECTION CEO LANES}
smug
.W „K
EIS
Loon Sroumi
if
■
* JQ1+4 Wmn
* S on vs
LOOP SAW -CUT DETAIL
SECTION B-B
I■■IIIIII'
1.
Ca :fo-
can rr }c,
DETAIL " W
X455yy51I I H I I rtr++
•80{ fir
s
REImMo
NCIITES` Is STATE OF
L 4tiz
L TIC 2 Ft dn[Ja hhsd p F t}I depemkg on Ehe mtyse rlrn f f+* }
a kap can be in frmt afthe slop lir4e
2.
