Southeast Quality of Life <br />Strategic Neighborhood Action Plan <br />Finally, ensuring active church involvement in the neighborhood is critical to the <br />future of the neighborhood. These institutions lend a strong sense of family, <br />community, dedication, and stability to a neighborhood. The Southeast side has <br />a wealth of opportunities in not only the number of churches within its <br />boundaries, but also in the churches stated dedication to improving the quality <br />Of life within the neighborhood. <br />How Does Housin Relate to the Other Task Forces? <br />Implementation of the Housing Task force programs are integrally linked with <br />the programs of the other task forces — Land Use and Physical Environment, <br />Capacity Building, and Security. <br />Land Use and Physical Environemtn Task Force <br />• .Prepare and adopt a Land Use Plan for the neighborhood. <br />Neighborhood Security Task Force <br />• Maintain and expand the neighborhood watch program. <br />Encourage heightened police presence in the neighborhood and tackle the <br />issue of criminal activity occurring in vacant homes in the neighborhood. <br />Capacity Building <br />• Initiate a mentoring/apprenticeship program for area youth to work with <br />local tradespeople. <br />These are several examples of programs that to be successful must rely heavily <br />upon continued communication and team approaches to problem solving and <br />decision making. <br />26 <br />
