REGULAR MEETING <br />FEBRUARY 22, 1988 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the <br />Council Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday, February 22, at 7:00 p.m. <br />The meeting was called to order and the Pledge to the Flag was given. <br />ROLL CALL Present: Council Members Luecke, Niezgodski, <br />Soderberg, Puzzello, Slavinskas, Zakrzewski, <br />Coleman, Duda, and Voorde <br />Absent: None <br />REPORT FROM THE SUB - COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />11 To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />The sub - committee has inspected the minutes of the February 8 meeting of the Council <br />and found them correct. <br />Therefore, we recommend the same be approved. <br />/s/ John Voorde <br />/s/ Loretta Duda <br />Council Member Zakrzewski made a motion that the minutes of the February 8, meeting <br />of the Council be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Council Member The <br />motion carried. <br />SPECIAL BUSINESS <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1589 -88 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, IN SUPPORT OF THE PROPOSAL TO MOVE THE <br />AMTRAK TERMINAL TO THE FORMER UNION STATION. <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, enthusiastically <br />supports the proposal to relocate the Amtrak Terminal; and <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council requests the National Railroad Passenger Corporation <br />which operates Amtrak to approve the relocation from 2702 West Washington Avenue; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the proposed new site being the former Union Station at 326 West South <br />Street is ideally located to be an Amtrak Terminal; and <br />WHEREAS, the proposed site would be adjacent to the newly constructed Stanley <br />Coveleski Regional Stadium which is the home of the South Bend White Sox, a <br />professional baseball team in the Midwest League. <br />WHEREAS, relocating to downtown South Bend would further enhance our City's <br />vitality and pride and would represent another positive step in economic <br />revitalization and growth. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, as follows <br />SECTION I. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, strongly <br />encourages the National Railroad Passenger Corporation, to approve the relocation of <br />the Amtrak Terminal to the former Union Station located at 326 West South Street. <br />SECTION II. The Council believes that such a relocation to downtown South Bend <br />would further enhance the economic revitalization projects currently taking place in <br />the downtown area, and would be a positive move for all passengers utilizing he <br />Amtrak service. <br />SECTION III. The Council authorizes the Office of the City Clerk to send a <br />certified copy of this Resolution to the officials of the National Railroad <br />Passenger Corporation so that it can be a part of the material they review during <br />their deliberations. <br />SECTION IV.
