A year ago, we succeeded in purchasing the <br />Red Carpet Lounge with the help of CDBG funding. We have now completed some <br />demographic and traffic studies for the northwest corner of Chapin and Western and are <br />prepared to acquire the land on the north of Western between Chapin and Pine for <br />commercial development. Three of the lots are owned privately and we have begun to make <br />contact with these individuals. The other lot, adjacent to the Red Carpet Lounge, is owned <br />by the City of South Bend. <br />In the past we have, as a non-profit community development corporation, worked with the <br />City of South Bend in the acquisition of lots near, or contiguous to, commercial projects that <br />we are developing in order to strengthen the surrounding low income neighborhoods..
