REGULAR MEETING MARCH 9, 1987 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the <br />Council Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday, March 9, at 7:00 p.m. The <br />meeting was called to order and the Pledge to the Flag was given. <br />ROLL CALL Present: Council Members Braboy, Puzzello, Taylor, <br />Beck, Zakrzewski, Barcome, Paszek, Voorde and <br />Serge <br />Absent: None <br />REPORT FROM THE SUB - COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />The sub - committee has inspected the minutes of the February 23, meeting of the <br />Council and found them correct. <br />Therefore, we recommend the same be approved. <br />/s/ Beverlie J. Beck <br />/s/ Al Paszek <br />/s/ Joseph Serge <br />Council Member Taylor made a motion that the minutes of the February 23, meeting of <br />the Council be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Council Member Barcome. The <br />motion carried. <br />SPECIAL BUSINESS <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1477 -87 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING HAROLD BRAZIER FOR HIS <br />OUTSTANDING ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND MANY <br />CONTRIBUTIONS TO OUR COMMUNITY <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, acknowledges <br />that Harold Brazier holds the Junior Welterweight Division Title of The North <br />American Boxing Federation; and <br />WHEREAS, Harold Brazier won the boxing title in October of 1986 and defended and <br />retained the title on February 28, 1987; and <br />WHEREAS, Harold Brazier is a native of South Bend, Indiana, and a graduate of <br />Riley High School; and <br />WHEREAS, he is married, the father of four (4) children and a member of Faith <br />Baptist Church; and <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council believes that Harold Brazier exemplifies the high <br />standards and qualities which have made him an excellent role model for the youth of <br />our nation and especially the youth of our community. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA, as follows: <br />SECTION I. On behalf of all of the citizens of South Bend, Indiana, the Common <br />Council hereby publicly commends Harold Brazier for winning and retaining the Junior <br />Welterweight Division Title of the North American Boxing Federation. <br />SECTION II. The Common Council believes that Harold Brazier's outstanding <br />athletic achievements and personal contributions have brought honor to both him and <br />his community. <br />SECTION III. The Common Council believes that the hard work and dedication of <br />Harold Brazier make him an excellent role model to our youth and we wish him <br />continued success in the years ahead. <br />SECTION IV. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after <br />its adoption by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />/s/ Joseph T.
