131 <br />ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING <br />JANUARY 7, 1991 <br />Council Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday, January 7, 1991, at noon. <br />The meeting was called to order and the Pledge to the Flag was given. <br />ROLL CALL Present: Council Members Luecke, Niezgodski, Soderberg, <br />Puzzello, Slavinskas, Zakrzewski, Coleman and Duda <br />Absent: None <br />Council Member Puzzello made a motion to nominate Council Member Niezgodski as <br />President, seconded by Council Member Coleman. As there were no further nominations <br />Council President Zakrzewski announced that Council Member Niezgodski was President. <br />Council Member Zakrzewski made a motion to nominate Council Member Puzzello as Vice <br />- President, seconded by Council Member Coleman. Council Member Soderberg made a <br />motion to nominate Council Member Slavinskas as Vice President, seconded by Council <br />Member Slavinskas. Council President Niezgodski asked for a roll call vote on <br />Council Member Puzzello. She was elected by a vote of six ayes and two nays <br />(Council Members Soderberg and Slavinskas.) <br />Council Member Coleman made a motion to nominate Council Member Duda as Chairman of <br />the Committee of the Whole, seconded by Council Member Luecke. Council Member <br />Slavinskas made a motion to nominate Council Member Soderberg as Chairman. Council <br />President Niezgodski asked for a roll call vote on Council Member Duda. She was <br />elected by a vote of six ayes and two nays (Council Members Soderberg and <br />Slavinskas.) <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1830 -91 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING JOHN VOORDE FOR HIS ELEVEN (11) <br />YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS COUNCIL MEMBER -AT -LARGE OF THE <br />CITY <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, recognizes that <br />JOHN VOORDE has diligently and enthusiastically served the citizens of South Bend as <br />a Council Member At- Large, since January 1, 1980; <br />WHEREAS, during the past eleven years, Council Member Voorde has earned the <br />reputation of asking probing questions and challenging his colleagues and members of <br />the Administration; and <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Voorde has served with pride as President of the <br />Council, Chairperson of countless Council Committees, has served as a member of the <br />Century Center Board of Managers, and has served on MACOG; while also dedicating his <br />time and talents to several other public service Boards: and <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Voorde has participated in numerous wage and salary <br />negotiations for the Fire and Police Departments and has offered keen insights which <br />became valuable negotiating tools: and <br />WHEREAS, perhaps John Voorde's greatest talent has been his unique ability to <br />put the needs and the concerns of the citizens first, and to pursue goals and <br />objectives in which he believed would be in the best interests of the City of South <br />Bend: and <br />WHEREAS, through John Voorde's efforts, the City of South Bend is truly a more <br />enriched community in which to raise our families and pursue our careers. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />SECTION I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, <br />the Common Council hereby publicly commends and thanks COUNCIL MEMBER JOHN VOORDE, <br />for his eleven years of dedicated public service to our City. <br />SECTION II. The Common Council publicly acknowledges Council Member Voorde's <br />countless contributions and selfless dedication to pursue goals, accept new <br />challenges, and seek new endeavors which would benefit our City. <br />SECTION III. The Council wishes JOHN VOORDE continued success in furthering his <br />public service career as he embarks on new challenges as the Portage Township <br />Assessor, and wishes him the very best in the years ahead. <br />SECTION IV.
