BILL NO. <br />ORDINANCE NO. L,q6n -g) <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE SALARY ORDINANCE <br />FOR FIREFIGHTERS FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1981 <br />STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT: <br />The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, <br />recognizes that Indiana Code Section 18- 1 -11 -2 specifically <br />authorizes the Common Council to set salaries for the Fire <br />Department. The Common Council has budgeted money in the <br />sum of ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00) for compensation <br />of firefighters who hold Indiana State certification as <br />Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). No provision was <br />included in the 1981 Salary Ordinance for the payment of <br />this amount to EMT's. <br />The Common Council therefore wishes to amend the 1981 <br />Salary Ordinance in order to pay persons who have attained <br />certification as EMT's for services rendered during 1981. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council <br />of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION I.
