John E. Leszczynski
Director, Public Works
CITY of SOUTH BEND
ROGER O. PARENT, Mayor
COUNTY -CITY BUILDING SOUTH BEND. INDIANA 46601
Division of
Engineering
May 5, 1981
Members of the
441 County -City
South Bend, IN
Common Council
Building
46601
Dear Councilmen:
(219) 284 -9251
The attached is a proposed ordinance requesting that a reduction be made
in the budget of the Bureau of Streets within the Motor Vehicle Highway
Fund. The State Board of Tax Commissioners overestimated the appropriation
of funds from the Motor Vehicle Highway Fund for fiscal year 1981, there-
fore, the Commission has ordered the City of South Bend to reduce the
Bureau of Streets' budget by $159,697.00.
The decrease of $125,000.00 from the "Other Contractuals" account brings
this balance to zero (0). This reduction is allowable by cancellation of
the sweeping contract. The reduction in the "Rents" account is a deduction
of the rental on the warehouse the City rents for storage of salt. A
portion of the rent on this warehouse is now being paid from the contractual
account in the Cumulative Capital Improvement Fund. The balance in the
"Rents" account after the reduction is $7,470.00. The "Safety Account"
is used for the rental of barricades and the purchase of bombs and warning
lights, protective eye gear, gloves and other safety equipment. The de-
crease of $8,167.00 leaves a balance of $13,766.26 in this account.
Your favorable consideration is requested on this proposed ordinance. If
you should have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me
at your earliest convenience.
Very truly yours,
ohn E. Leszczynski
Director
JEL /mkm
Attachment
