John E. Leszczynski
Director, Public Works
CITY of SOUTH BEND
ROGER O. PARENT, Mayor
COUNTY -CITY BUILDING SOUTH BEND, INDIANA 46601
Division of
Engineering
July 21, 1981
Members of the Common Council
Fourth Floor, County -City Building
South Bend, IN 46601
Dear Councilmen:
(219) 284 -9251
The attached is a proposed ordinance requesting an appropriation of
$60,000.00 for the purchase of two street sweepers. Funds are available
from the Sewage Works Depreciation Fund to make this purchase.
The Wastewater Treatment Plant has experienced additional costs for mainten-
ance and repair due to sand and debris entering the sewer system and the
wastewater treatment plant. The only possible way to eliminate this problem
is to remove as much of this type of debris from the streets before it
enters the sewer system. We hope to accomplish this goal by the purchase
of two street sweepers. This will reduce the long term costs of the treat-
ment plant thereby helping to keep sewage rates down.
If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please feel free
to contact me.
Very truly yours,
John E. Leszczynski
Director
JEL /mkm
Attachment
