Lafayette Falls Extension Annexation Area 8 <br /> C. Fire Department& EMS <br /> Fire Response - The South Bend Fire Department provides a fully staffed, full-time fire <br /> department. The Annexation Area will be serviced primarily by Fire Station #10 at 5303 S <br /> York Road, which is approximately 3.6 miles away. Additional Fire Department units would <br /> respond from Fire Station #1, located at 1222 S. Michigan Street, approximately 4.8 miles <br /> away, or Fire Station #5, located at 2221 Prairie Avenue, approximately 4.5 miles away. <br /> The South Bend Fire Department notes that the response time will be approximately 10 <br /> minutes, above the required response time standard set forth in NFPA 1710 of 4 minutes. <br /> Extensive response times could be addressed by an agreement to utilize automatic aid from <br /> fire stations closer to the annexation area, by establishing a metro fire department and <br /> absorbing smaller departments into South Bend, or by constructing a new fire station. Fire <br /> coverage to this area could begin immediately upon annexation. Adequate water supply will <br /> be necessary as any development takes place. <br /> Emergency Medical Response - The City will provide emergency medical response to the <br /> Annexation Area.
