This went beyond core infrastructure and included critical
technology needs, such as a failing telecommunication platform that was a
longstanding priority to be updated. Additionally, unforeseen circumstances
of a global scale caused a major emphasis on the importance of air filtration
and other healthy building initiatives District -wide for the safety of students
and faculty.
Richland One leaned heavily on Schneider Electric to develop a
comprehensive infrastructure enhancement project to help them stretch their
facility investment and implement these critical building modernizations in an
efficient manner. Our team developed a Phase 1 project that will reduce the
District's utility consumption by 24% at 15 of their 52 schools and generate
nearly $28M in guaranteed energy savings from their utility/operations
budget over 20 years.
Upon signing the construction contract, the District turned their attention
from demand -side efficiencies to supply-side generation. Schneider Electric
was well positioned to help R1 act quickly to take advantage of an expiring
utility net -metering program. Nearly 9MW of rooftop solar was included at
the Phase 1 facilities, generating nearly $30M in additional guaranteed
savings. This initiative, paired with the efficiencies from the original project,
will enable the District to off -set an average of more than 70% of the energy
consumed at these schools and several will achieve net -zero energy
consumption overall.
Phase 3 and 4 focus on equity across the District by standardizing on
solutions, technology and systems included in previous phases across 23
additional District sites.
"This program with Schneider Electric will allow us to make needed
upgrades to our buildings in a much smarter, more efficient and most
importantly, fiscally responsible way."
Dr. Craig Witherspoon, Superintendent
Richland County School District One
Frl
