A public hearing was held on the resolution at this time. Council Member Slavinskas
made a motion to accept the substitute page one, as on file with the City Clerk's
office, seconded by Council Member Coleman. The motion carried. Council Member
Kelly reported that the Community and Economic Development Committee had met on this
bill and recommended it to the Council favorable. Ernest Szarwark, attorney, made
the presentation for the bill. He indicated Steel Warehouse had a resource recovery
system and they were able to exempt 95% of this system for personal property taxes,
however, this year the State retroactively eliminated that benefit. He indicated
they are petitioning the City for an abatement on this equipment, which would not
equal the other benefit but it will phase in some of the loss. Council Member Kelly
made a motion to adopt this resolution, seconded by Council Member Coleman. The
resolution was adopted by a roll call vote of nine ayes.
