PARENT, Mayor <br />COUNTY -CITY BUILDING SOUTH BEND, INDIANA 46601 <br />July 1, 1983 <br />Dear Council Members: <br />The attached bill would amend the 1983 salary <br />ordinance. <br />219/284 -9742 <br />The Century Center Board of Managers has adopted <br />a reorganization plan and this bill would allow the <br />implementation of that plan. It establishes three new <br />positions and adds the Auditor II position to provide <br />an internal promotion. No additional personnel will <br />be added under the proposed reorganization. <br />The Traffic Division of the Police Department <br />recommends that the salary for crossing guards be <br />reestablished at an hourly wage of $7.50. Tremendous <br />disparities currently exist because of the limited salary <br />range between Crossing Guards I, II and III, and the <br />wide differences in time required on individual corners. <br />This proposal would establish an equitable wage on the <br />basis of what is currently paid overall, and provide com- <br />pensation based on the amount of work performed. <br />If you have questions or need more information on <br />this bill, please contact the Executive Director of <br />Century Center or the Captain of the Traffic Division in <br />the Police Department. <br />Sincerely, <br />oseph E.
