CITY OF SOUTH BEND <br /> PETE BUTTIGIEQ, MAYOR <br /> OFFICE OF THE MAYOR <br /> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> April 22, 2013 <br /> Contact: Mike Schmuhl <br /> Phone: 574-235-9261 <br /> KARA KELLY NAMED DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS <br /> SOUTH BEND—Mayor Pete Buttigieg announced today that Kara Kelly has been named <br /> Director of Communications for the Mayor's Office in South Bend. <br /> Kelly joins the Mayor's Office from the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture, <br /> where she served as Director of Communications since 2001. <br /> "We're thrilled to welcome Kara to our office," Mayor Buttigieg said. "She brings a wealth of <br /> knowledge about strategic communications and media relations. With more than a decade of <br /> working with preeminent architects and urbanists at the School of Architecture, she holds a deep <br /> understanding of what it takes to revitalize a city. Kara's experience and enthusiasm for South <br /> Bend will help this administration build on our strengths to create a more vibrant future." <br /> At the School of Architecture, her role included publicizing the Richard H. Driehaus Prize at the <br /> University of Notre Dame, a $200,000 annual award to honor a preeminent classical architect. <br /> Kelly also oversaw two annual publications and developed online content for both the School of <br /> Architecture and the Driehaus Prize. She is the editor of Timeless Architecture, forthcoming in <br /> 2013 from the London-based Papadakis Publisher. <br /> A graduate of Saint Mary's College, Kelly has been honored by the Publicity Club of Chicago <br /> and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Prior to joining the University of <br /> Notre Dame, she served as a publicist for Ave Maria Press, developing national publicity <br /> campaigns for Sorin Books, the publisher's general-trade imprint. She is also a former assistant <br /> editor for U.S. Catholic Magazine in Chicago. <br /> "This is an exciting time in South Bend," Kelly said.
