ZONING & ANNEXATION <br />3:48 P.M. <br />March 11, 2013 <br />Committee Members Present: Dr. Fred Ferlic, Oliver Davis, Henry Davis, Gavin Ferlic <br />Other Council Present: Tim Scott, Valerie Schey, Dr. David Varner, Karen White, Derek <br />Dieter <br />Citizen Members: Kyle Chamberlin <br />Others: Chief Cox, SBFD, Mark Lyons, Mark Neal, Kathy Cekanski - Farrand, John Voodre <br />Agenda: Bill No. 13 -16 - Special Exception — 2221 Prairie Ave. <br />Dr. Ferlic opened the meeting with one bill 13 -16, on the agenda. This bill was filed by the City <br />for the Fire Department requesting a special exception for 2221 Prairie Ave to allow the <br />construction of a new fire station number 5. <br />Dr. Ferlic asked Mark Lyons for the report from the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA). He reported <br />a unanimous favorable recommendation. <br />South Bend Fire Chief Steve Cox told Council that the design work for the new station was <br />nearly complete. Construction would begin in the spring. <br />Karen White asked if fiber optic would be in the station. Chief Cox said he was working to <br />install fiber optic in all stations. <br />City Controller Mark Neal added that the Martin Luther King Center and the Charles Black <br />Center would have fiber optic too. <br />On a motion by Oliver Davis, seconded by Gavin Ferlic and governing a unanimous support the <br />bill was sent to full Council favorably. <br />Dr. Ferlic adjourned the meeting at 5:36 p.m. <br />Respectfully Submitted, <br />Dr. Fred Ferlic, Chairperson <br />Zoning & Annexation Committee <br />
