REGULAR MEETING JUNE 26, 2000 <br />WHEREAS, some of the many accomplishments during Dr. Calvin's superintendency <br />include: implementing a JROTC program at the high school level, creating an alternative school at <br />Hamilton, incorporating social workers at the secondary and elementary levels; and emphasizing and <br />establishing new and innovative community partnerships and outreach programs throughout the city. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section I. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, hereby publicly <br />commends and honors Dr. Virginia Calvin for her seven (7) years of dedicated service as the South <br />Bend Community School Corporation Superintendent. <br />Section II. In recognition of the many contributions made to our community by Dr. Virginia <br />Calvin, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, hereby declares the week of June <br />26, 2000, as "Dr. Virginia Calvin Appreciation Week." <br />Section III. The Common Council wishes Dr. Calvin and her entire family a life filled with <br />positive challenges and opportunities, and hopes that she will remain an active and vital voice in our <br />community for years to come. <br />Section IV. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption by <br />the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />s /James Aranowski, First District <br />s /Charlotte Pfeifer, Second District <br />s/Roland Kelly, Third District <br />s/Karl King, Fourth District <br />s/David A. Duda, City Clerk <br />s/Kathleen Cekanski - Farrand, Council Attorney <br />s /Stephen J. Luecke, Mayor <br />Councilmember White made the presentation for this Resolution. Councilmember White read the <br />Resolution in its entirety and presented it to Dr. Virginia Calvin along with her thanks and best <br />wishes for the future. <br />A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time. There was no one present wishing to <br />speak to the Council either in favor of or in opposition to this Resolution. <br />Councilmembers Kelly, Aranowski, King, Varner, Ujdak, Coleman, Kirsits and Pfeifer each <br />addressed Dr. Calvin and thanked her for her years of service to the community. <br />Dr. Calvin thanked the members of the Council for this Resolution. <br />Councilmember King made a motion to adopt this Resolution. Councilmember Coleman seconded <br />the motion which carried by acclamation. <br />
