REGULAR MEETING <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />JANUARY 10, 2000 <br />REQUEST FOR UTILITIES COMMITTEE TO STUDY STREET LIGHT OUTAGES <br />Councilmember Varner noted that when appointments are finalized for the various Council <br />committees, he would like the new Chairperson of the Utilities Committee, as their first <br />order of business, to look at the street light outage problems. It was noted that perhaps a <br />representative from AEP could attend their meeting. Councilmember Varner noted that he <br />has received reports that some street lights have been out for months. <br />PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR <br />SOUTH BEND FIREFIGHTERS POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE <br />Mr. Mark Catanzarite, 1322 East LaSalle, South Bend, Indiana, informed the Council that <br />he is a member of the South Bend Firefighters Political Action Committee and is present <br />tonight on behalf of their President, Mr. James Gadacz who is ill. On behalf of the <br />Committee Mr. Catanzarite extended congratulations to the newly elected Council. He noted <br />that there are several legislative issues pertaining to City government that the Committee <br />would like to speak to the Council about in the future. <br />REZONINGS <br />Mr. Rich Coddens, 23136 Acacia Place, South Bend, Indiana, referred to a recent South <br />Bend Tribune article regarding an upcoming rezoning in which Mr. Mike Urbanski indicated <br />that people do not want to build homes next to factories. Mr. Coddens informed the Council <br />that when property near his home was annexed by the City of South Bend, they were <br />promised that the zoning would stay Business Park. However, the Council later changed it <br />to Light Industrial. He wondered if it is not right for Mr. Urbanski, if it is right for his <br />neighborhood. He asked the Council to think about what they are voting for and to vote the <br />same continuously. He feels that they were shortchanged in the County. <br />SOUTH BEND FIREFIGHTERS LOCAL 362 <br />Mr. Leon Stein, President, South Bend Firefighters Local #362, 1122 South Main Street, <br />South Bend, Indiana, residing at 52193 Woodridge Drive, South Bend, Indiana, noted that <br />he was present on behalf of the Firefighters Local 362 and congratulated everyone on their <br />election. Mr. Stein submitted to all Council members notebooks which contained some <br />Indiana Code statutes pertaining to City government as he stated that he has always been in <br />favor of education and being prepared. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />There being no further business to come before the Council, Councilmember Coleman made a <br />motion to adjourn. Councilmember Varner seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of <br />eight (8) ayes and the meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m. <br />ATTEST: <br />Loretta .
