ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING JANUARY 3, 2000 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the Council Chambers <br />of the County -City Building on Monday, January 3, 2000 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting was called to <br />order by Councilmember Sean Coleman. A moment of silent prayer was offered and the Pledge to <br />the Flag was given. <br />ROLL CALL <br />Present: James Aranowski <br />1" District <br />Charlotte Pfeifer <br />2nd District <br />Roland Kelly <br />3rd District <br />Karl King <br />4"' District <br />David Varner <br />5`h District <br />Andrew Ujdak <br />6`h District <br />Sean Coleman <br />At -Large <br />Al "Buddy" Kirsits <br />At -Large <br />Karen L. White <br />At -Large <br />Absent: None <br />ELECTION OF COUNCIL PRESIDENT FOR 2000 <br />Councilmember Coleman opened the floor for nominations for the position of Common Council <br />President for 2000. Councilmember Kelly made a motion to nominate Councilmember Charlotte <br />Pfeifer for this position. Councilmember Ujdak seconded that nomination. There being no other <br />nominations for this position, Councilmember Aranowski made a motion to close the nominations. <br />Councilmember Kelly seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. <br />Councilmember Charlotte Pfeifer was elected President of the Common Council for 2000 by <br />acclamation. Councilmember Coleman passed along the gavel to President Pfeifer. <br />ELECTION OF COUNCIL VICE - PRESIDENT FOR 2000 <br />Council President Pfeifer made a motion to nominate Councilmember Jim Aranowski for the <br />position of Vice - President of the Common Council for 2000. Councilmember Kelly seconded the <br />motion. Councilmember King made a motion to close the nominations. Councilmember Ujdak <br />seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. Councilmember Aranowski was <br />elected Vice - President of the Common Council for 2000 by acclamation. <br />ELECTION OF CHAIRPERSON - COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE <br />Councilmember Aranowski made a motion to nominate Councilmember Andy Ujdak for the position <br />of Chairperson, Committee of the Whole. Councilmember King seconded the motion which carried. <br />Councilmember Coleman made a motion to close the nominations. Councilmember Uj dak seconded <br />the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. Councilmember Ujdak was elected <br />Chairperson, Committee of the Whole, of the Common Council for 2000 by acclamation. <br />APPOINTMENT OF COUNCIL ATTORNEY <br />Council President Pfeifer made a motion to reappoint Kathleen Cekanski - Farrand as Council <br />Attorney for 2000. Councilmember Varner seconded the motion which carried by acclamation. <br />REAPPOINTMENTS TO SOUTH BEND REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION <br />Councilmember Kelly made a motion for the reappointment of Robert Hunt and Marcia Jones to the <br />South Bend Redevelopment Commission for the year 2000. Councilmember Coleman seconded the <br />motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. <br />
