REGULAR MEETING MARCH 20, 2013 <br />ARSONS 0 I+ 1 0 2 <br />GRAND TOTAL 345 290 - 55 748 663 <br />29 <br />2 <br />85 <br />APPROVAL OF ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE — MCKEE <br />In a letter to the Board, Chief Teachman, Police Department, stated that Patrolman Jeff McKee <br />was charged with Operating While Intoxicated (Class A Misdemeanor); Operating While Intoxicated <br />(Class C Misdemeanor), Cause #46D031302CM00680 in Laporte County, Indiana. Chief Teaclunan <br />is requesting the Board, pursuant to IC 36 -8 -3 -4 (n), place Patrolman Jeff McKee on Administrative <br />Leave without pay until the disposition of the criminal charges in the trial court. Upon a motion <br />made by Ms. Vasquez, seconded by Mr. Collins and carried, the Administrative Leave without pay <br />was approved pursuant to IC 36- 8- 3 -4(n) with the start dated to be effective the first date Patrolman <br />McKee would return from a previous unpaid leave, the date to be determined by Chief Teachman. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />TABLE FINDINGS OF FACTS — SHAWN KUMINECZ <br />Upon a motion by Mr. Miller, seconded by Mr. Taylor and carried, the Board tabled the Findings of <br />Facts until their next regular meeting. <br />APPROVE EXTENTION OF CONTRACT — MEMORIAL HOSPITAL OF SOUTH BEND INC. <br />Fire Chief Stephen Cox presented a renewal of the Children's Hospital Ambulance Staffing Contract <br />with Memorial Hospital of South Bend, Inc., through April 1, 2013, or until the terms of the new <br />agreement are finalized. Chief Cox stated this contract has been in effect for twenty (20) years and <br />the City Attorney is working on new contract terms, so they are requesting the old one be extended <br />until April 1, 2013. Mr. Taylor noted the contract is a three (3) party contract with the Board of <br />Works, Board of Safety, and Memorial Hospital. Upon a motion by Mr. Taylor, seconded by Mr. <br />Miller and carried, the extension of the contract was approved as outlined. <br />FILING OF MONTHLY STATISTICAL ANALYSIS REPORT — FEBRUARY 2013 <br />Fire Chief Stephen Cox submitted to the Board the monthly report for February 2013 compiled by <br />the Prevention/Inspection Bureau of the Fire Department. Chief Cox noted there was a double <br />fatality on February 11 due to a house fire. He informed the Board that he was just told the third <br />victim that was pulled from the fire, passed away last week. Chief Cox stated the investigation is <br />ongoing and they hope to have a conclusion within a week. SUDROVECH <br />In a letter to the Board, Assistant Chief Todd Skwarcan submitted an Application and Declaration for <br />Retirement for Firefighter Robert A. Sudrovech effective February 22, 2013. Assistant Chief <br />Skwarcan noted that Firefighter Sudrovech has served the Department with loyalty and distinction <br />during the last twenty three (23) years, and one (1) month. In his letter, Assistant Chief Skwarcan <br />joined the Board in thanking him for his commitment, dedication and years of distinguished service <br />to the South Bend Fire Department and the citizens of South Bend. Members also wished him a long <br />and happy retirement. Upon a motion made by Mr. Taylor, seconded by Mr. Miller and carried, the <br />recommendation for the retirement was accepted and approved. <br />
