REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 26, 2001 <br />RESOLVE INTO THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE <br />At 7:25 p.m. Councilmember Coleman made a motion to resolve into the Committee of the Whole. <br />Councilmember Varner seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. <br />Chairman Ujdak presiding. <br />ANNOUNCEMENT OF ITEMS CONTINUED AND WITHDRAWN <br />Councilmember Ujdak informed the public that Bill No. 6 -01 regarding the proposed vacation of a <br />portion of Greenlawn Avenue has been continued until March 26, 2001 at the request of the <br />petitioner. <br />Additionally, Bill No. 133 -00 regarding an amendment to Chapter 13 of the South Bend Municipal <br />Code concerning firearms, has been withdrawn. <br />BILL NO. 10 -00 PUBLIC HEARING ON A BILL AMENDING THE <br />ZONING ORDINANCE, AND ESTABLISHING AN <br />HISTORIC LANDMARK FOR THE PROPERTY <br />LOCATED AT 3016 PORTAGE AVENUE, IN THE CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />Councilmember White reported that the Zoning & Annexation Committee met on this bill and sends <br />it to the Council with an unfavorable recommendation. <br />Mr. John Oxian, 742 Sancome Street, South Bend, Indiana, President and Acting Director, Historic <br />Preservation Commission, 227 West Jefferson Boulevard, Room 1123, South Bend, Indiana, <br />indicated that he has discussed this matter with the Area Plan Commission and that Councilmember <br />White will join him in meeting with the Board of the Portage Manor in an attempt to reach a <br />compromise on this issue and the amount of property to be included in this designation. Therefore, <br />Mr. Oxian asked that the bill be withdrawn from consideration at this time. <br />Councilmember Coleman made a motion to strike this bill from the agenda. Councilmember Varner <br />seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. <br />BILL NO. 6 -01 PUBLIC HEARING ON A BILL TO VACATE THE <br />FOLLOWING DESCRIBED PROPERTY: A PORTION OF <br />GREENLAWN AVENUE FROM THE NORTH RIGHT OF <br />WAY LINE OF MISHAWAKA AVENUE TO THE SOUTH <br />RIGHT OF WAY LINE OF WALL STREET FOR A <br />DISTANCE OF 561.5 FEET, MORE OR LESS, BEING A <br />PART OF WHITCOMB & KELLER'S 6TH SUNNYMEDE <br />ADDITION TO THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, ST. <br />JOSEPH COUNTY, INDIANA <br />Councilmember Ujdak advised that the petitioner has requested that this bill be continued until the <br />March 26, 2001 meeting of the Council. Therefore, Councilmember Coleman made a motion to <br />continue this bill as requested.
