ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING JANUARY 1, 2001 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the Common Council At -Large office located on the 4"' floor of the County -City Building on Monday, January 1, 2001 at 5:00 p.m. The meeting was held in this location due to the fact that the County -City Building was without electricity and this room offered the most natural light. The meeting was called to order by Chief Deputy City Clerk Sandra M. Parmerlee in the absence of City Clerk Loretta Duda. Councilmember Kirsits offered the invocation and the Pledge to the Flag was given. ROLL CALL Present: James Aranowski 1" District Charlotte Pfeifer 2nd District Roland Kelly 3rd District Karl King 4"' District David Varner 5`h District Andrew Ujdak 6`h District Sean Coleman At -Large Al "Buddy" Kirsits At -Large Karen L. White At -Large Absent: None ELECTION OF COUNCIL PRESIDENT FOR 2001 Chief Deputy City Clerk Sandra Parmerlee opened the floor for nominations for the position of Common Council President for 2001. Councilmember Kelly nominated Councilmember Charlotte Pfeifer for this position. Councilmember Varner seconded the nomination. There being no other nominations for this position, Councilmember Coleman made a motion to close the nominations. Councilmember Aranowski seconded the motion. Councilmember Charlotte Pfeifer was elected President of the Common Council for 2001 by a voice vote. ELECTION OF COUNCIL VICE - PRESIDENT FOR 2001 Council President Pfeifer nominated Councilmember Jim Aranowski for the position of Vice - President of the Common Council for 2001. Councilmember King seconded the nomination. There being no other nominations for this position, Councilmember Coleman made a motion to close the nominations. Councilmember Kelly seconded the motion. Councilmember Aranowski was elected Vice - President of the Common Council for 2001 by a voice vote. ELECTION OF CHAIRPERSON - COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE Councilmember Aranowski nominated Councilmember Andy Ujdak for the position of Chairperson - Committee of the Whole. Councilmember Kelly seconded that nomination. There being no other nominations for this position, Councilmember Kirsits made a motion to close the nominations. Councilmember Coleman seconded the motion which carried. Councilmember Ujdak was elected to serve as Chairperson - Committee of the Whole of the Common Council for 2001 by a voice vote. APPOINTMENT OF COUNCIL ATTORNEY Council President Pfeifer made a motion to reappoint Kathleen Cekanski- Farrand as Council Attorney for 2001. Councilmember White seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote.
