ST. JOSEPH MERCY OAKLAND HOSPITAL
This project was the
demolition of the 5-
story, 135,000 sf North
Tower at St. Joseph
Mercy Hospital. The
nursing units, pediatric
and mother/baby units
formerly housed here
had been moved to the
newly refurbished
South Tower. Months of planning, coordination with hospital
operations and preparatory work went into the process.
The 5-story tower was
demolished using
Adamo’s 345 Apex High
Reach Excavator equipped
with an MP 30 multi-
processing tool. The
project also involved the
demolition of a 2-story
material handling building
adjacent to the tower. The tower was demolished in sections rather
than implosion due to its proximity to active parts of the hospital and
surrounding neighborhoods. With proper, timely coordination with the
hospital staff, Adamo avoided any disturbances to hospital operations
due to vibration and noise. The project was completed safely and to
the hospital’s complete satisfaction.
