GM WTC (Warren Technology Center) 2020
VEC TRANSFORMATION
This project was
located in Warren,
Michigan at General
Motors Technology
Center. This project
consisted of
abatement and
complete demolition of
three (3) research
buildings, totaling
110,000 square feet.
One of the buildings
was known for its use
of research on high
speed car crash tests
using animals as test
dummies. More than
25 years ago, PETA’s
intense campaign essentially ended the automotive industry’s cruel practice of smashing
live animals into walls at high speeds as part of deadly and barbaric car-crash testing.
Time was of the essence in
the execution of this project.
Therefore, sufficient labor
and materials were provided
at all times to meet the
project schedule. The
schedule was based on
seven (7) 12 hour days.
Precautions were taken as to
not disturb the ongoing
business and to keep
vehicle, pedestrian, and
construction dirt and dust
out of occupied building
areas, lobbies, hallways and
passenger elevators. Approximately 1,000 gross tons (GT) of ferrous scrap was
removed from the properties. This project was completed in six (6) weeks, with a
contract value of $4,046,854.58.
