NORTHVILLE PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL DEMOLITION
This project was a highly
complex, 400,000 sf,
$8.4million, multi-story,
multiple building
medical facility
demolition. The project
demolished Buildings A
and B, which comprised
the main hospital and had multiple wings ranging from two (2) to nine
(9) stories. Also included was the removal of universal wastes, asset
recovery for recycling and asbestos abatement. The height of the
structures required specialized, hi-reach demolition excavators. The
demolition plan was developed with stringent safety
standards/practices. The project employed full-time site security. The
property has multiple subgrade tunnels and vaults that were constantly
monitored for integrity and marked to ensure no equipment traveled
over the structures, which avoided collapse of the structures.
The 12-acre
site
restoration
included
topping the
site with
topsoil, fine
grading and hydro seeding. The project was successfully completed
with no injuries or incidents, on time and within the planned budget.
