White <br />At -Large Vice - President <br />Absent: Karl King <br />4th District Chairperson, Committee of the Whole <br />Resigned: Andrew Ujdak <br />6th District <br />REPORT FROM THE SUB- COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: The sub - committee has inspected the minutes <br />of the August 26, 2002 meeting of the Council and found them to be correct. <br />Therefore, we recommend the same be approved. <br />s/Roland Kelly <br />s/David Varner <br />Councilmember Coleman made a motion that the minutes of the August 26, 2002 meeting of the <br />Council be accepted and placed on file. Councilmember White seconded the motion which carried <br />by a voice vote of seven (7) ayes. <br />SPECIAL BUSINESS <br />RESOLUTION NO. 3114 -02 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, HONORING AND <br />COMMENDING POLICE CHIEF LARRY E. BENNETT <br />FOR HIS MORE THAN THIRTY -THREE (3 3) YEARS OF <br />DEDICATED SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE SOUTH <br />BEND POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />WHEREAS, the South Bend Common Council is proud to recognize that a 22 -year old <br />former Marine, Larry E. Bennett, joined the rank and file of the South Bend Police Department on <br />the 16th day of April, 1969, as a 1st Class Patrolman; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council recognizes that for a five (5) year period, our city was fortunate to <br />have both Larry E. Bennett and his father, Sergeant Gene Bennett, serving on the South Bend Police <br />Department at the same time; and <br />WHEREAS, three years ago, during a critical time in the history of the police department and <br />our city, Larry E. Bennett, was appointed Police Chief of the South Bend Police Department, which <br />-1- <br />
