SECTION 6 – TRAFFIC AND LIGHTING <br />88 <br />The removal of existing signs shall be coordinated with the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting (574-235- <br />9925) and arrangements made for the convenient time to deliver City signs and poles. All salvaged traffic <br />signs shall be delivered to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting at 731 S. Lafayette Blvd. All deliveries to <br />the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting requires a minimum of two (2) working days prior to returning or <br />delivering any sign and/or sign related material. <br />The white on black signs located in Historic Districts shall remain unless directed otherwise by the City. <br />All signs are to be barcoded. The Contractor shall provide a list to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting. <br />The Bureau will create the barcodes which are then to be secured to the sign by the contractor. <br />6-4.2 MATERIALS <br />Signs shall be of 0.10 gauge aluminum for widths up to sixty (60) inches and 0.125 gauge aluminum for <br />widths greater than sixty (60) inches. The background color, based on street type, shall be 3M <br />ElectroCutTM Film Series 1170 (1171c Yellow, 1175c Blue, 1177c Green, or 1179c Brown) or approved <br />equal. The white legend shall be Diamond GradeTM DG3 Reflective Sheeting, Series 4090 (4090 White) <br />or approved equal. <br />Sign posts shall be two (2) inches by two (2) inches (INDOT Type 2) ASTM designation A570, Grade <br />50 steel meeting the provisions of Buy America. <br />6-5 TRAFFIC MARKINGS <br />6-5.1 GENERAL <br />Longitudinal lines, other than on bridge decks and RCBA’s, should be grooved when durable marking <br />materials of thermoplastic, multi-component, or preformed plastic are used. Grooving pavement for <br />longitudinal lines extends the service life of the marking by reducing the likelihood of snow plow damage <br />and improves marking adherence to the pavement surface. <br />In the central business district where parking is prohibited, curb markings shall be IMUTCD compliant <br />with red located in front of fire hydrants, yellow for no parking regulations, and blue to designate parking <br />spaces for persons with disabilities. <br />Green pavement markings shall be used in extensions of bicycle lanes through intersections and traffic <br />conflict areas. <br />6-5.2 MATERIALS <br />6-5.2 (a) THERMOPLASTIC <br />Thermoplastic is a durable marking material that should be used on asphalt pavements with an <br />Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) value greater than or equal to 10,000 to 20,000 Vehicles <br />per Day (VPD) or designated as a Collector and for transverse markings, unless otherwise directed <br />by the City.
