SECTION 3 – STORMWATER <br />29 <br />the accidental entry of an errant vehicle. (INDOT Hydraulic and Drainage Design 203- <br />5.03(07)). <br />3-1.9 ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS <br />1.) All impervious area of the site, excluding Public right-of-way, shall drain through a storage <br />facility. <br />2.) If the site is within a wellhead protection area, infiltration may not be used unless specifically <br />allowed by the City Engineer. <br />3.) All compartmentalized chambers of underground storage facilities shall have inspection ports <br />with a minimum clear opening of 24-inch diameter and shall be sized to accommodate physical <br />removal of grease, debris, solids and pollutants that may enter the storage facility . <br />4.) For storage within gravel beds, only the open void space shall be included in the available <br />storage calculation. Use of uniform grade stone with a maximum porosity of 35% shall be used <br />in calculations. Dense graded aggregate shall not be considered for storage. <br />5.) For sites not located within wellhead protection areas, paved parking lots may be designed to <br />provide temporary storage of storm waters that exceed the peak 100-year storm event. Outlets <br />will be designed so as to empty the stored waters slowly. Depths of storage shall be limited to <br />a maximum depth of 4 inches. Ponding should, in general, be confined to those areas of the <br />parking lots furthest from the area served. <br />6.) Refer to Section 17-4 of the Ordinance for information about the City’s Long Term Control <br />Plan, including drain and downspout disconnect requirements. <br />3-2 STORMWATER QUALITY <br />Section under development. <br />3-3 STORMWATER TECHNICAL <br />3-3.1 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS <br />Design of the Stormwater System shall comply with the current version of the City of South Bend <br />Ordinance, Issuance of Permits, Construction and Permit Requirements, and product <br />manufacturer’s requirements. <br />3-3.2 MATERIALS <br />3-3.2 (a) PIPES AND FITTINGS – GRAVITY FLOW <br />Pipe and fitting materials shall conform to the requirements of INDOT Standard Specifications Section <br />715. Other pipe and fittings not specified herein may be used only when specifically authorized by the <br />City.
