REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 10, 2003 <br />add security at the Main and Colfax Garage and the St. Joseph and Wayne Street garages which will <br />add about seventy two - thousand dollars ($72,000.000) per year to the expenses. In addition, they <br />will be adding some security at the St. Joseph and Jefferson Street garage to cover the events at the <br />Century Center. Mr. Williams informed the Council that a study group was formed to study this <br />issue. The group consisted of representatives from Downtown South Bend, AMPCO Parking <br />Systems, the City Engineer, Police Department, Mayor's office and the Redevelopment <br />Commission. The group studied several alternatives, reviewed rates from other garages both in and <br />out of South Bend and made this recommendation. He noted that the South Bend rates are still the <br />lowest and that this is the first rate increase since 1987. <br />This being the time heretofore set for the Public Hearing on the above bill, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. <br />There being no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in opposition to this <br />bill, Councilmember Coleman made a motion for favorable recommendation to full Council <br />concerning this bill. Councilmember White seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of <br />eight (8) ayes. <br />RISE AND REPORT <br />Councilmember Coleman made motion to rise and report to the full Council.
