ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING JANUARY 5, 2004 <br /> Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the <br /> Council Chambers of the County-City Building on Monday, January 5, 2004, at 7:30 p.m. The <br /> meeting was called to order by Councilmember White and the Invocation and Pledge to the Flag <br /> were given. <br /> ROLL CALL <br /> Present: Derek Dieter 1st District <br /> Charlotte Pfeifer 2nd District <br /> Roland Kelly 3rd District <br /> Ann Puzzello 4th District <br /> David Varner 5th District <br /> Ervin Kuspa 6th District <br /> Al "Buddy"Kirsits At-Large <br /> Karen L. White At-Large <br /> Sean Coleman At-Large <br /> Absent: None <br /> ELECTION OF COUNCIL PRESIDENT FOR 2004 <br /> Councilmember Kirsits nominated Councilmember White for the office of President. <br /> Councilmember Pfeifer seconded the motion which carried by a vote of nine ayes. Newly elected <br /> President White thanked the Council for the opportunity to serve in this capacity and looks <br /> forward to working with Mayor Luecke and building South Bend into a 21st Century City. <br /> ELECTION OF COUNCIL VICE-PRESIDENT FOR 2004 <br /> Councilmember Pfeifer nominated Councilmember Kelly for the office of Vice-President. <br /> Councilmember Kuspa seconded the motion which carried by acclamation. <br /> ELECTION OF CHAIRPERSON- COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE FOR 2004 <br /> Councilmember Dieter nominated Councilmember Coleman for the office of Chairperson- <br /> committee of the Whole. Council President White seconded the motion which carried by <br /> acclamation. <br /> RE-APPOINTMENT OF COUNCIL ATTORNEY - 2004 <br /> Councilmember Puzzello made a motion to reappoint Ms. Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand as the <br /> Council Attorney for 2004. Councilmember Kuspa seconded the motion which carried by <br /> acclamation. <br /> UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br /> Council Member Coleman stated that he is seeking the position of St. Joseph County Treasurer <br /> in the upcoming 2004 Primary election. <br /> Mayor Steve Luecke addressed the Council and welcomed the newly elected Councilmembers. <br /> He indicated that he is looking forward to working together with the Council to make great <br /> progress for the City of South Bend. <br /> 1 <br /> 1 A moment of silence was invoked on the passing of Rhoda Bradshaw, a member of the Transpo <br /> Board.
