REGULAR MEETING SEPTEMBER 13,2004 <br /> He indicated that the State of Indiana has updated the building codes to be followed by all <br /> jurisdictions in the State, and that a portion of this ordinance will bring them into <br /> conformance with State regulations. This ordinance keeps in compliance with Ordinance <br /> No. 8412-93, subsection 1, which establishes the Consolidated Building Department as <br /> an enterprise fund. It is the responsibility of the Building Department to monitor fees in <br /> order to assure that they are self-supporting. <br /> This being the time heretofore set for the Public Hearing on the above bill, proponents <br /> and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. <br /> There being no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in <br /> opposition to this bill, Councilmember Varner made a motion for favorable <br /> recommendation to full Council concerning this bill. Councilmember Kuspa seconded <br /> the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. <br /> BILL NO. 57-04 PUBLIC HEARING ON A BILL OF THE COMMON <br /> COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br /> APPROPRIATING$146,000 WITHIN HAZ-MAT FUND <br /> (#289)FOR PURCHASE OF EQUIPMENT FOR THE <br /> HAZ-MAT TEAM AND VEHICLES <br /> Councilmember Puzzello, Chairperson, Health and Public Safety Committee met this <br /> afternoon on this bill and sends it to the Council with a favorable recommendation. <br /> Councilmember Al `Buddy" Kirsits, Councilmember at Large, disclosed that he is a <br /> member of the South Bend Fire Department and after discussing this matter with Council <br /> Attorney Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand that they concur that there is no conflict of interest <br /> in this matter. <br /> Assistant Fire Chief Jim Lopez, South Bend Fire Department, (no address given) made <br /> the presentation for this bill. <br /> Chief Lopez advised that this bill would allow for the appropriation of$146,000 within <br /> the Haz-Mat Fund (#289). He stated that$140,000.00 is in the form of a grant from the <br /> State of Indiana through Homeland Securities. This money will be used to purchase Haz- <br /> mat equipment which will allow the Haz-mat team to be a part of the state response team <br /> (region 2).
