REGULAR MEETING JULY 26, 2004 <br /> PURCHASING, APPROPRIATIONS AND FINANCIAL <br /> REPORTING PROCEDURES <br /> Councilmember Varner made a motion to continue this bill until the August 23, 2004 <br /> meeting of the Council. Councilmember Puzzello seconded the motion which carried by <br /> a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. <br /> BILL NO. 39-04 PUBLIC HEARING ON A BILL OF THE COMMON <br /> COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br /> APPROPRIATING $198,345 WITHIN COMMUNITY& <br /> ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUND #212 FOR <br /> DISTRIBUTION PURSUANT TO THE U.S. <br /> DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE'S WEED AND SEED <br /> GRANT PROGRAM <br /> Councilmember Kelly, Chairperson, Community and Economic Development Committee <br /> reported that this committee met this afternoon on this bill and sends it to the Council <br /> with a favorable recommendation. <br /> Pam Meyer, Director, Community Development, 1200 County-City Building, 227 W. <br /> Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, Indiana, made the presentation for this bill. <br /> Ms. Meyer informed that this appropriation will allow for the second year's Weed& <br /> Seed Department of Justice Grant funds received by the City. The funds will be used for <br /> programming related to Weed& Seed required areas of Law Enforcement, Community <br /> Policing, and Safe Havens, building upon and continuing the first year programs. Ms. <br /> Meyer stated that this bill was to be voted on at the July 12, 2004 meeting of the Council <br /> and it was thought that an error was made in the amount of the grant. Originally,the <br /> grant application was submitted with a different dollar amount and the Department of <br /> Justice returned the application with the amount of$198,345, and after further review, it <br /> was found that the amount that was advertised and in the title was correct. She <br /> apologized for any inconvenience that this might have caused. <br /> This being the time heretofore set for the Public Hearing on the above bill,proponents <br /> and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. <br /> There being no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in <br /> opposition to this bill, Councilmember Kelly made a motion for favorable <br /> recommendation to full Council concerning this bill.
