701 W. SAMPLE STREET
SOUTH BEND, INDIANA 46601-2890
CITY OF SOUTH BEND
JAMES MUELLER, MAYOR
PHONE 574/235-9311
FAx 574/288-0268
SOUTH BEND POLICE DEPARTMENT
SCOTT A. RUSZKOWSKI, CHIEF OF POLICE
Board of Public Works February 191h, 2024
City of South Bend, Indiana
Honorable Board Members,
The South Bend Police Department is requesting Board approval for the disposal of surplus/obsolete
equipment no longer being issued to officers with the South Bend Police Department. The equipment
includes one model of Remington Shotguns, one model of Smith & Wesson Handguns, and one model of
Sig Sauer Handguns which are no longer used by the SBPD.
There are twenty (20) Remington 870 Marine Magnums. This model has been utilized and issued for
over twenty years; these shotguns have sustained much wear and tear during their lives and are no
longer fit for modern police usage.
There are eight (8) Smith & Wesson M&P handguns. These particular handguns have been in circulation
for five years at the police department and cannot be issued to new hires. These handguns have been
used extensively for training purposes and are not fit for duty usage.
There are three (3) Sig Sauer P229 handguns. These particular handguns have been in circulation for
over fifteen years at the police department and cannot be issued to new hires. These handguns have
been used extensively by the South Bend Fire Department's Arson Investigators, who have since
upgraded to newer handguns. Their firearm program is managed by SBPD.
The twenty (20) shotguns and eleven (11) handguns would be traded into Kiesler Police Supply, a QPA
Vendor the SBPD consistently does business with, for a credit on future purchases.
Thank you,
Sgt. Aaron M, epper #2174
Logistics Officer - Support Division
South Bend Police Department
(574)235-9018
S ERVICE BRAVERY P RIDE DEDICATION
