I understand many South Bend residents face a variety of significant daily downtownsouthbend.com <br /> challenges, whether it's putting food on the table for their children or working multiple May 3rd <br /> jobs to snake ends meet. Because of this, I believe it is essential to provide our residents First Fridays- <br /> basic services so seamlessly that they can take them for granted, allowing them to focus "Vintage Downtown" <br /> on the other pressing issues of life. From clean drinking water— our public works team <br /> delivered 6 billion gallons of clean water to the people of South Bend last year—to our <br /> emergency response personnel, South Bend residents deserve basic services and a peace <br /> of mind. <br /> The second pillar of my administration's policy has been the deliverance of good <br /> government. Through numerous initiatives, including "Mayor's Night Out" events, center for History: <br /> www.centerforhistory.com <br /> an exhaustive and transparent budgeting process, and the issuance of South Bend's first <br /> Ethics Code, we have sought to make government more accessible and accountable to May 1st <br /> those it serves. Times are still tough, but unemployment has fallen 2.4% over the last two years.
