JOSEPH COUNTY <br />Phone: 574/235.9371 Fax: 574/235.9021 Email: hpcsbsjc@southbendin.gov <br />STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: January 9, 2024 <br />Application Number: 2024-0103 <br />Property Location: 14500 Adams Road <br />Architectural Style/Date/Architect or Builder: Cemetery / <br />1840 / <br />Property Owner: Harris Township Trustee <br />Landmark or District Designation: St. Joseph County Local <br />Landmark, Ordinance #113-99 <br />Rating: Contributing <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/SITE: This is a rectangular plan cemetery with a single lane bisecting <br />it. The graves are laid in a linear pattern perpendicular to Adams lid: There are several large pines and deciduous <br />gees - one c. 32” caliper. -smaller. Decorative memorial markers include carved limestone stelas -one with drapery, <br />obelisks arid vertical plinths - plus modern stones. <br />ALTERATIONS: AA 2021-0422 allowed for the repair and replacement of the asphalt shingle roof on mainte- <br />nance shed. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: “1. Replacement of the existing chain link fence with a new, black ornamental style fence. 2. Paving <br />and curbing of the existing driveway and creation of a three-car parking area on the south side of the cemetery near the existing storage <br />building. 3. Creation of a formal entrance with brick columns and potential metal archway. 4. Installation of up to two (2) granite <br />columbarium on the south side of the cemetery.” <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: The applicant has requested approval to: <br />1. Replacement of the existing chain link fence with a new, black ornamental style fence <br />2. Paving and curbing of the existing driveway and creation of a three-car parking area on the south side of <br />the cemetery near the existing storage building <br />3. Creation of a formal entrance with brick columns and potential metal archway <br />4.
