<br /> <br />^,~ <br />4 . Ori'I~k2R <br />Mrs. Kolata brought the Authority up to date on the status of the St. <br />Joseph/Wayne Parking Garage. The construction of the garage has reached the <br />third level and the retail portion has been laid out. Redevelopment staff will <br />be meeting with the engineers to design the specifications for the retail space. <br />There have been three inquiries regarding the retail space. <br />Mr. Davey asked if the construction is on schedule. Mrs. Kolata responded that <br />it is not. The original completion date was in May, but the contractor is now <br />anticipating a September completion date.. <br />Mrs. Kolata also noted that there have been inquiries regarding rental of parking <br />spaces in the garage. The Redevelopment Co~nnission has signed an agreement with <br />the Board of Public Works to have the Board of Works operate the garage. The <br />Board of Works is now advertising for the reserving of parking spaces. They will <br />take applications on a first came/first served basis at the current rate <br />specified by the City Ordinance, $35.00 per month for an individual parker. <br />Mr. Nussbaum brought the Authority up to date on the status of the Coveleski <br />Stadium. Total attendance for the 1989 White Sox season was 171,000. That was <br />third highest in the country for a single A team and second in the Midwest <br />League. Attendance for Park Board events was 17,000. <br />Mr. Nussbaum and Mayor KeYrian attended the Baseball Winter Meetings in December <br />to acquaint the Minor League baseball conurnuiity with ourstadium. These contacts <br />are important in the City's effort to upgrade to a AAA franchise. They were <br />pleasantly surprised to discover that our stadium has become widely ]mown for its <br />quality and for the community support the White Sox received during the first <br />season. He noted that Baseball America included a picture of Coveleski Stadium <br />in its 1989 calendar. South Bend has been selected to host the Midwest Minor <br />League All Star game in June as well as the Notre Dame Midwest Collegiate <br />.Conference tournament in May. <br />Mr. Nussbaum noted that the stadium was a financial success, also. It met the <br />lease payment appropriation, paid the appropriated Park Board fees, and <br />contributed $25,000 to the East Race Fund for the purchase of new obstacles for <br />the raceway. The remainder of the profits will be used to improve the concession <br />areas. <br />5. <br />There being no further business to came before. the Authority, Mr. Wroblewski made <br />a motion that the meeting be adjourned.
