Cie ■ <br /> RESOLUTION NO. <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,INDIANA, <br /> RECOGNIZING"WEAVING THREADS OF RESILIENCE&ADVOCACY:THE POWER OF <br /> SOCIAL WORK"THEME FOR 2013& THE DEDICATED WORK OF SOCIAL WORKERS <br /> the South Bend Common Council notes that approximately 650,000 individuals <br /> have chosen the field of social work as their profession in the United States; and <br /> Offenta each year the National Association of Social Work (NASW) selects a theme <br /> which reflects the ongoing and enduring goals of their profession, with this year' theme being <br /> "Weaving Threads of Resilience and Advocacy: The Power of Social Work";and <br /> social workers are professionals who are trained to help individuals struggling <br /> with many issues, obstacles and often tragedies;who provide access to a multitude of resources <br /> and options,including personal and public advocacy;and <br /> one of the bedrock foundations of social work is that it is "...a profession of <br /> hope"with countless social work professionals confirming that "...their work is about helping <br /> others move forward";and <br /> for over one hundred years, Social Workers have helped Americans deal with <br /> emotional,psychological,and economic challenges;and <br /> professionally trained Social Workers are known for daily helping their clients <br /> by using their training,strengths,resilience and self-advocacy to help navigate individuals;and <br /> Offemar, today, Social Workers are employed in many private and public agencies, <br /> hospitals, schools, universities, businesses, military branches, Veteran Centers, and hospice <br /> organizations by providing needed services,often during very trying situations. <br /> ova refoloo4*d ammon'aune yofe Ng/{rooa£giren4 lien <Adlana,adigeowo, <br /> Section I. The South Bend Common Council joins with many other governmental units <br /> across the nation in acknowledging the strength and determination of professionally trained <br /> Social Workers. <br /> Section II. The Common Council recognizes this year's national theme of"Weaving <br /> Threads of Resilience and Advocacy. The Power of Social Work",and the many contributions of <br /> America's 650,000 Social Workers provide on a daily basis throughout our country. <br /> Section III.
