ORDINANCE NO. 7 i0$ j$- <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SOUTH BEND MUNICIPAL CODE <br /> CHAPTER 17 , ENTITLED SEWERS AND WATER, TO ADD <br /> A NEW ARTICLE 8 , ENTITLED FLOOD HAZARD AREA <br /> STANDARDS. <br /> STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT: <br /> Certain standards are required to be adopted for the City <br /> of South Bend in order that the City may continue to participate in <br /> the National Flood Insurance Program. These requirements have been <br /> established by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE SOUTH BEND COMMON <br /> COUNCIL, as follows : <br /> SECTION I . Chapter 17 of the South Bend Municipal Code <br /> shall be amended by adding a new Article 8 , which shall read as <br /> follows : <br /> Article 8. Flood Hazard Area Standards . <br /> Section 17-65. Certain utility construction or <br /> reconstruction in flood hazard areas . <br /> All new or replacement watermains , valves , or other <br /> appurtenances and all new or replacement sewers , manholes , and <br /> other appurtenances constructed or reconstructed in a Flood Hazard <br /> Area, as defined in Chapter 21 at Section 21-1(a) (22.3•) shall be <br /> designed and constructed as to minimize or eliminate infiltration <br /> of flood waters into these systems and discharges from the systems <br /> into flood waters . <br /> SECTION II. This ordinance shall be in full force and <br /> effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and <br /> approval by the Mayor. <br /> / �� <br /> 1 .er of the Common Council <br />
