ORDINANCE NO. 7 i0$ j$- AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SOUTH BEND MUNICIPAL CODE CHAPTER 17 , ENTITLED SEWERS AND WATER, TO ADD A NEW ARTICLE 8 , ENTITLED FLOOD HAZARD AREA STANDARDS. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT: Certain standards are required to be adopted for the City of South Bend in order that the City may continue to participate in the National Flood Insurance Program. These requirements have been established by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE SOUTH BEND COMMON COUNCIL, as follows : SECTION I . Chapter 17 of the South Bend Municipal Code shall be amended by adding a new Article 8 , which shall read as follows : Article 8. Flood Hazard Area Standards . Section 17-65. Certain utility construction or reconstruction in flood hazard areas . All new or replacement watermains , valves , or other appurtenances and all new or replacement sewers , manholes , and other appurtenances constructed or reconstructed in a Flood Hazard Area, as defined in Chapter 21 at Section 21-1(a) (22.3•) shall be designed and constructed as to minimize or eliminate infiltration of flood waters into these systems and discharges from the systems into flood waters . SECTION II. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. / �� 1 .er of the Common Council
