TAYLOR <br /> Fire Chief <br /> South Bend Common Council <br /> County—City Building <br /> South Bend, IN 46601 <br /> Dear Council Members : <br /> The attached ordinance proposes to appropriate from the Emergency <br /> Medical Services Capital Improvement Fund the amount of $43, 000. 00 . <br /> The funds balance as of the September 1985 Controller' s Report is <br /> $205, 869. 89. <br /> The appropriated funds will be spent for the following: <br /> Reconstruction of Fire Station #7 , 1616 Portage Ave. <br /> This project involves raising the roof and increasing the height of <br /> the North apparatus ( ladder truck) bay. This is necessary to <br /> accomodate the new Quint aerial truck scheduled for April 1986 <br /> delivery. This project was known to be necessary when the new <br /> apparatus were ordered. <br /> Additionally, the Department plans to replace several badly <br /> deteriorated windows in the station bedroom with modern insulated <br /> types . The roof, door and windows are contracted to cost $42, 732. 00. <br /> Originally, this project was to be funded within the Fire Department ' s <br /> 1985 budget. However, because of other demands on the anticipated <br /> surplus, it is now necessary to pay for this project from the EMS <br /> capital fund. <br /> The Fire Department asks your favorable consideration of this <br /> request . As always , I will be prepared to discuss this ordinance with <br /> the appropriate Council Committee(s) . If any additional information <br /> is required, please do not hesitate to contact either Asset .
