attached to a building or structure where the principal function of such building or <br />structure is something other than the support of a sign. <br />(42) Sign, Incidental: A sign relating to the lot or use thereof which provides <br />information or directions necessary or convenient for visitors coming on the lot, <br />including but not limited to signs marking entrances and exits, pazking areas, <br />circulation direction, restrooms and pick-up or delivery areas. <br />(43) Sign, Marquee: Any sign or graphic printed on or attached directly to a marquee. <br />(44) Sign, Monument: Any freestanding sign constructed in or on the ground surface <br />with its sign display surface extending upward from the ground surface. <br />(45) Sign, On-Premise: A sign which directs attention to a building, business, product, <br />activity, or service offered on the property on which the sign is located. <br />(46) Sign, Outdoor Advertising: Anoff-premise sign which directs attention to any <br />business, profession, product, activity, commodity, or service, that is offered, <br />sold, or manufactured on property or premises other than that upon which the sign <br />is located. <br />(47) Sign, Pennant: A sign of lightweight plastic, fabric, or other similaz material <br />which is suspended from a rope, wire or string, usually in a series, and which is <br />designed to move in the wind. [Note: Pennant Signs aze not permitted in the <br />"CB" District.] <br />(48) Sign, Pole: Any freestanding sign which has its supportive structure(s) anchored <br />in the ground and which has the lowest portion of its sign surface elevated by <br />more than ten (10) feet above the grade. <br />(49) Sign Structure: Any structure including any pole, base, foundation, support, tie <br />rods, upright, bracing or framework which supports or is capable of supporting <br />any sign. <br />(50) Sign Surface: The surface of the sign upon, against, or through which the <br />message of the sign is exhibited. <br />(51) Sign Surface Area: The area of a sign surface (which is also the sign surface area <br />of a wall sign or other sign with only one sign face). Sign surface area shall be <br />computed by using the smallest azea contained within one, two or three distinct <br />squares, rectangles, or combination thereof that will encompass the extreme limits <br />of the writing, representation, emblem, or other display, together with any <br />material or color forming an integral part of the background of the display or used <br />to differentiate the sign from the backdrop or structure against which the sign is <br />placed, but not including any supporting framework, bracing twenty-four (24) <br />inches in width or less, or any decorative fence or wall when such fence or wall <br />otherwise meets the applicable regulations of this Ordinance and is cleazly <br />incidental to the display itself. <br />47 <br />
