The original clapboards have been restored and painted. The gambrel roof has almost full length front and
back shed dormers that are all covered with asphalt shingles. The windows are 6/1 double hung on the house and
sunroom and multi pane quarter rounds in the attic storey. There is a small front porch that has a gable roof over-
hang with wood supports and railings. There is a two car jerkin head roof garage on a concrete foundation.
ALTERATIONS: The front porch has been altered in that the brick wing walls noted in the 1995 survey card are
missing. The windows are replacement windows (2014-0530). The roof is a replacement
APPLICATION ITEMS: “Replace all existing wood siding with Cedar Creek brand vinyl siding.”
DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: The applicant has requested approval to:
Replace the original wood siding with vinyl siding.
STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: See Walls section pages 26-28, attached below.
SITE VISIT REPORT: Historic Preservation specialist Ross Van Overberghe conducted a site visit on
08/17/2023 with the property owner and his contractor.
“The original wood clapboard siding is in great condition. There is a significant amount of peeling paint on the
south side and some on the east and west sides of the house. I tested several spots for density and only found 1 spot
that was soft under a window on the south side. There is evidence of a section of siding that was replaced, possibly
when the aluminum siding was removed. There is not more than 50% of the siding that is deteriorated beyond re-
pair.
I informed the property owner of my findings and advised him to obtain a quote for painting. I recommended hav-
ing the paint stripped to bare wood to ensure a good paint application to mitigate the repeated peeling paint. I also
advised getting quotes for alternative siding materials.”
STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff gives an unfavorable recommendation.

Prepared by
Ross Van Overberghe, Historic Preservation Specialist
