when using new types of equipment not formerly used by his Company; the Negotiating Committee of the <br />Employers and the Unions shall meet to immediately negotiate the wage scale for same. The agreed rate <br />shall be retroactive to the equipment's first day of use. <br />Section 16. Apprentices. <br />1 Generai. The parties to this Agreement have established an apprenticeship program that is <br />administered by the Teamsters Union Local No. 142 Training and Apprenticeship Trust Fund <br />(hereinafter "Apprenticeship Program."), This Article applies to each apprentice who is accepted <br />into and enrolled in the Apprenticeship Program (hereinafter "Apprentice"). <br />2- Probation Period. Each Apprentice shall be required to serve a probationary period of not less <br />than 600 hours of on-the-job learning, over a period of not less than six consecutive months. The <br />rate of pay for an Apprentice for this probationary period shall be fifty percent (50%) of the <br />applicable rates set forth in ARTICLE 4 f of this Agreement (hereinafter "Journeyworker Rates"). <br />3. Wages. The wages of an Apprentice shall be a percentage of the Journeyworker Rates, which <br />percentage shall be: <br />Minimum <br />On -The -Job <br />Hours to <br />Complete <br />Aeriod The Period <br />Minimum Time Required <br />To Ca <br />Applicable <br />PP <br />During Period 1 600 — <br />ete the Period <br />Percentage <br />During Period 2 Additional 600 <br />During Period 3 Additional 600 <br />Addittllo aco <br />l Six (6) consecutive tive months <br />65% <br />65 /° <br />During Period 4 Additional 600 <br />Additional six (6) consecutive months <br />Additional six (6) consecutive <br />months <br />90% <br />90% <br />3-(a) The applicable percentage for the apprentice wage rate referenced in Section 3 above shall be <br />applied to the Tearnster Group III rate contained in Section 11 to determine <br />for apprentices doing covered work. <br />the correct wage rate <br />3-(b) The minimum hour and minim urn time requirements for each period are in addition to all minimum <br />hour and minimum time requirements for previous periods. The applicable percentage for <br />periods 2, 3, and 4 above shall not apply until the Apprentice has completed all of the minimum <br />hour and minimum time requirements for all previous periods and all other requirements ❑f the <br />Apprenticeship' Program for all previous periods. Employers shall contact the Apprentice <br />Coordinator and the appropriate Business Representative responsible for the placement and <br />wage rates of Apprentices to confirm the applicable wage rate percentage for each Apprentice. <br />4. Ratio. The maximum number of Apprentices for each Journeyworker shall be a ratio of 1:5 for <br />each Employer and 1:3 on each job. Any Employer employing at least five (5) Joumeyworkers <br />may choose to employ one (1) apprentice, if available. To avoid the layoff of Journeyworkers <br />currently employed by an Employer, Apprentices will be placed by the Union with an Employer <br />when the Employer makes the next available request for manpower. <br />5. Work, The Employer shall be responsible for the training of each Apprentice on the job. The <br />Employer shall take reasonable steps to assign vehicles and work to an Apprentice in a manner <br />that allows said Apprentice to meet his on-the-job training requirements under the Apprenticeship <br />Program, <br />6. Coordinator. It shall be the responsibility of the Apprentice Coordinator and the appropriate <br />Business Representative responsible for the placement and wage rates ❑f Apprentices to rotate <br />Apprentices among Employers to insure that all Apprentices receive an -the -job training in all <br />15 <br />
