Punches House, Queen Anne, c. 1900. Contributing. <br />Left side of photo 15 <br />The one-story house has a concrete foundation and vinyl siding. The wood windows are 1/1 and <br />have simple trim boards. The gabled roof features cornice returns with shingled eaves and is <br />covered with asphalt shingles. The front façade features a dominant gable and wide porch. The <br />porch has rows of turned posts and balustrade of spindles. The porch has a hipped roof. A <br />modern wood door is in the south end of the porch’s back wall and a large 1/1 window is in the <br />north half of the first story. The second story features a three-sided projecting bay with cutaway <br />corners and 1/1 wood windows in each wall. The top of the front gable is enclosed and is <br />covered with large wood shingles. A notable feature is located on the south façade. A three-sided <br />bay projects near the center of the second story and features a 1/1 wood window and enframed <br />gable that juts from the attic. <br /> <br />The house likely belonged to John and Mary (Annis) Punches who are shown at 613 Columbia <br />Street in the 1910 census. John (57) and Mary (55) were living alone with no children at that <br />time. John Punches was an inspector at a lumber company.20 The couple lived on East South <br />Street during the 1890s prior to living on Columbia Street in a home they likely constructed for <br />themselves. <br /> <br />543 Columbia Street. The <br />house has 1/1 wood windows with simple crown moldings. A frieze boards is at the top of the <br />walls. The house has a gabled roof with a moderate pitch and is covered with asphalt shingles. <br />The two-story, front-gabled section is on the north half of the front (west) façade. It features a <br />pair of modern 1/1 wood windows centered in the first story and a 1/1 wood window centered in <br />the second story. The one-story wing is on the south half of the façade.
